About Shannon
I am an executive educational leader with more than 25 years of experience across public, private, international and provincial education in British Columbia, Canada and globally. My work has centred on developing people, strengthening organizations, building relationships and creating the conditions for students, educators and communities to thrive.
Most recently, I served as President of the British Columbia Principals’ & Vice-Principals’ Association, representing school leaders across the province and working alongside government, education partners and communities on the complex issues shaping public education in British Columbia. This experience deepened my commitment to collaborative leadership, thoughtful advocacy and building strong systems through strong relationships.
Throughout my career, I have served as a teacher, counsellor, school and district administrator, international school principal and provincial association leader. My leadership experience spans elementary, middle and secondary education, international programming, leadership development, governance, strategic planning, community engagement and organizational change.
My career has also taken me well beyond British Columbia. I began teaching in Taiwan, later served as Principal of a British Columbia Offshore School in Beijing, and helped expand international education opportunities for students in School District 47. Earlier in my life, I spent a formative year living and studying in Rovaniemi, Finland, where I learned Finnish and developed an enduring appreciation for culture, perspective and the importance of understanding the world beyond our own experience.
I hold an undergraduate degree and teaching certification from the University of Victoria, a Master’s degree from the University of Calgary, and a Doctorate in Education Leadership and Policy Studies from the University of Kansas. My doctoral research explored equity and women’s experiences in senior educational leadership.
As I look toward the next chapter of my career, I am interested in opportunities where I can contribute at a senior level to organizational leadership, strategic direction, leadership development and meaningful system change — particularly in environments that value relationships, curiosity, courage and a strong sense of purpose.
